Dr. Maximilian Martin
Dr. Maximilian Martin is the Founder & CEO of Impact Economy SA. He currently also serves as Founding Faculty in Residence at AshokaU, where he works with senior faculty in the United States to enable them to teach social entrepreneurship effectively, and as a Lecturer in Social Entrepreneurship at the University of St. Gallen.
Dr. Martin is passionate about convergence between the spheres of knowledge, business and the public good.
His previous work includes creating Europe’s first wealth management philanthropic advisory and knowledge exchange platform, UBS Philanthropy Services and the UBS Philanthropy Forum (2004-2009), which he established as the Bank’s global lead offering for the ultra-high net worth segment and an industry benchmark, recognized as the world’s top philanthropic service by Euromoney in 2007. Previously, he also created the first university course on social entrepreneurship in Europe at the University of Geneva.
Other engagements have included serving as Founding Chief Strategist at IJ Partners, Global Head and Managing Director of UBS Philanthropy Services, Visiting Professor at the University of Geneva, Head of Research at the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, Senior Consultant with McKinsey & Company, instructor at Harvard’s Economics Department, and Fellow at the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Dr. Martin serves on several international governing, sustainability and advisory boards, and has authored over one hundred articles on social business and philanthropy, corporate responsibility, impact investments, and related topics (http://ssrn.com/author=794432). He is a frequent speaker at international gatherings in these fields. He holds an MA in anthropology from Indiana University, a MPA from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in economic anthropology from the University of Hamburg. Convinced that we are entering a new era of sustainability capitalism, he coined the term “impact economy” for the convergence of sectors and emerging concurrent focus on social and economic value creation under way.
